So I have another gig coming up and this one will be my first ever solo gig—All Me All Night—three straight hours with no sister DJs or mentors to back me up. I’m nervous, of course, but also pretty excited. But until now, I’ve never played more than an hour’s worth of music in an evening, so I am going through all my old music to see if I have enough music appropriate for this venue. And I’m coming across some great old electronic stuff from when I first moved to the Netherlands and amalgamated my music collection with that of the Ex (who obvs wasn’t the Ex at the time, seeing as how I moved to NL to live with him!).
Here’s one I unearthed that I’d completely forgotten about: Blue (Da Ba Dee) by Eiffel 65, released in 1998 or 1999. I think it hit Number One on the charts. People tend to either love or hate it. Me, I love it until I’ve listened to it twenty times in a row, then I hate it for a handful of years until I run across it again. So here’s what I was rocking out to in the car (again!) on the way to work this morning, giving the other drivers on the road a good laugh, I’m sure:
